A Steinbach homeowner’s air conditioner had been running fine one day and refused to start the next — no cool air, no response from the unit at all.

Our technician started with a full inspection, checking the electrical connections near the outdoor condenser before testing further. The culprit turned out to be a failed capacitor, the small component responsible for giving the compressor and fan motor the jolt of power they need to start up. The condenser coil and evaporator were both in good shape, so a capacitor replacement was all this system needed to get back to normal cooling.

It’s a common failure point, especially as a unit ages, and one of the more affordable fixes when caught early rather than left to strain the compressor further.

If your air conditioner suddenly goes quiet on a hot day, don’t assume the worst — a quick diagnostic can often turn up a simple fix like this one. Our AC repair team is ready to get to the bottom of it.
