A homeowner in Île-des-Chênes called us after noticing water pooling around their hot water tank — a sure sign the unit had reached the end of its life. Our technician confirmed the 40-gallon electric tank, installed 14 years ago, had started leaking from the tank body itself, a failure that can’t be patched and calls for a full replacement.

We removed the old unit and installed a new 40-gallon electric hot water tank the same visit, so the household wasn’t left without hot water overnight. While we were there, we also installed a drain pan underneath the new tank — a simple safeguard that catches any future leaks before they can damage the surrounding floor — and replaced the aging supply hoses on the nearby washing machine, since worn hoses are one of the most common causes of unexpected water damage in a home.

A leaking hot water tank rarely gives much warning before it fails completely, so catching it early kept this a same-day fix instead of an emergency call. If your hot water tank is more than ten years old, it’s worth having it checked before it decides the timing for you.
